The Becoming #2 | Original Artwork
Pumice Stone, Basalt Rock, Brown Ochre, White Ochre Earth Pigment
The Becoming is a deeply personal collection born from a quiet, sacred symbol: a single feather, gradient from grey at its base to black, then brown, and finally white. It arrived in a time of quiet upheaval, when the outer world seemed intact, but something within whispered: something is no longer aligned.
That feather became a message. Its gradient a map of what was to come. And its pigments, collected from the Earth, each hold a truth about the journey of becoming.
The Pigments & Their Symbolism:
• Grey – Pumice Stone: Light, porous, and born from fire, pumice symbolises cleansing, letting go, and spiritual renewal. It helps release what no longer serves, emotional residue, energetic weight, outdated beliefs. Despite its volcanic origins, pumice floats on water, representing grounded lightness, and the possibility of rising above heaviness while staying connected to the Earth.
• Black – Basalt: Dense and primal, basalt speaks to endurance, grounding, and inner strength. Forged in volcanic fire and cooled into solid form, it embodies transformation with purpose. Its steady, anchored energy helps one root deeply during times of great change. Used in hot stone healing, basalt also carries warmth, a symbol of sustained support, ancestral wisdom, and the power to heal through presence.
• Brown – Brown Ochre: Rich and ancient, brown ochre is the pigment of belonging, embodiment, and earth connection. It represents the moment transformation stabilises, when clarity starts to settle into the bones. Brown ochre reminds us that healing isn’t just insight; it must also be lived and integrated into daily being.
• White – White Ochre: Soft yet radiant, white ochre is the essence of spiritual clarity, surrender, and rebirth. It marks the turning point, the soul re-emerging with a deeper truth, now gently held. It speaks not of conclusion, but of renewal. A return, not to who we were, but to who we truly are. The reclamation of self.
• White Stroke – Oyster Shell: Oyster shell embodies the transformation that arises from struggle and resilience. Just as the oyster turns irritation into a pearl, we, too, can transmute hardship into strength. Its tough exterior and grounded presence remind us of our inner resilience, while its hidden beauty represents the quiet power of embracing life’s challenges and emerging stronger.
The Becoming explores the sacred void between what is no longer and what is not yet. It is a visual and energetic meditation on the ache of not knowing, the courage to question, and the power of choosing oneself amidst the fear of disappointing others.
The feather, so light, yet layered in symbolism, holds the soul’s quiet transformation. It is the voice of the unseen shift, the healing unravel, the return to self after a lifetime of fragmentation.
Each piece in this collection honors the quiet strength in not knowing, in choosing to walk through uncertainty, and in finally turning inward for guidance. The feather, though light, carries the gravity of transformation, it reminds us that healing is not linear, but layered; not loud, but sacred.
